George Clooney: Underrated Comedic Actor...

...and this film is proof.

Who's with me?

Timing, facial expressions - all genius.

I definitely agree, he was so funny in this film, with the constant teeth-checking thing, and his delivery of the lines - one in particular:
"Let the record show that the Baron has identified Mr. Rexroth as THE SILLY MAN!"

reply

One of my favorite lines in the movie, lazzyfuzzy!

I agree! hes a comic geniushas both charm and charisma.

Oh, Mr. Massey. You have *no* *idea*.

reply

Absolutely, I agree! George is very good at comedy, and whenever he gets a good funny role, he shines at his fullest. O Brother was probably his best comedic role. He was fantastic in this, but the writing was not so good here. George did his best, that's all we can ask!

"I can't be responsible for what my goons are ordered to do"-C.M. Burns

Actually I have never been a particular George Clooney fan, but this film may just have won me over. He is truly and wonderfully perfect. His expression when he has just witnessed the fate of his contract killer... but no, I will not mention any more individual scenes, all of his work here is great, and all of his mugging is tasteful. He reminded me of Cary Grant - although some of you will say his performance here exceeds Grant's - and you may just be right.

I completely missed Bruce Campbell. Thank you for giving me an excuse to re-watch.

George Clooney is one of my favorite modern actors, primarily on the strength of his comedies. I have not yet watched Syriana so most of my exposure to Clooney has been his comedy or action roles (along with some smaller dramatic roles, such as in "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind"), so I will reserve final judgment on how he compares to the great Cary Grant. My opinion at this time is that he does not have the range of Grant; but he comes closer to Grant's charm and savoir fair than any other modern actor.

I'm with you...Clooney's performance here is just about perfect.

reply

Yay, I'm glad I'm not alone in this.

I agree - he's very Cary Grant-ish. And not in an "imitating Cary Grant" kind of way.
