Johnny Depp's eyes in this film.... thoughts?

I absolutely love Johnny Depp, and I am so excited every time I see a new movie of his.... I liked this movie just fine, but I was a little put off by it.
Johnny has the wonderful capability of bringing his character to life through his eyes! But I was bothered when I watched this movie becuase....
To me, Armacost's eyes look.... well.... dead. There is no life in this character through his eyes which kind of depresses me when I watch this.
As always, wonderful facial expressions, he brings the character to life in more ways than one, but I was just so sad when I couldn't see Armacost in his eyes.
But maybe is it because Armacost is evil, that there was supposed to be no expression?
What do you think?

well, im inclined to believe that. i mean. he's s'posed to have changed a lot. and it's only things she can pick up on. even how he reacts to her touch. and i feel he could have added more. personally. though he should be emotionless i guess it did feel a bit too dead. but in his defence johnny usually plays characters with a lot more pesonality, substance, emotions and quirkiness. he's not so used to playing this type of role. the character itself was too flat. but i love johnny. and i know he picks movies not for how well they do in the box office but how appealing the story line is to him. and he probably wanted a challenge. i still love him!

Oh God yes! I still love him and he's such an amazing actor with the world's greatest talent. He's so quirky on each role, adding something all his own that no one would've thought of for that character. I was just a little disappointed with Spencer Armacost. He was a GREAT villain- totally freaky- way to go, Johnny. But still... I thought he could have added some stuff as well... I think if you look at his monumental roles like JM Barrie, Cap'n Jack Sparrow, Edward Scissorhands, those roles, you would just see how MUCH he can do in his eyes which is m-azing!

Agreed.
See, I was just wondering because I actually like this film and I just thought his eyes seemed kinda dead, then I was like, well it might work for the character, which it did. So, do you think he enjoyed himself in this movie?

Well I wonder if he enjoyed making the movie and getting to be that deliciously evil guy....
Idk if he ever saw that film either, but I think he did really well with his aweesome facial expressions- as always

i think his eyes were very much "alive" in this film, he was always giving so deep glances..

I disagree with you.
When I watched this, I noticed myself thinking, "His eyes are really creepy in this movie."
Meh. To each his own. Everyone picks up different things actor's do in movies. :]

I know this is old but I had to comment. The lack of life in his eyes was done on purpose. In the scene where Jillian is telling the story of the Princess and the pregnancy she mentions having to wait for the babies to be born, so she can see it in their eyes if they're the original Prince's babies or not. This implies she can tell by looking into Armacost's eyes that he isn't her Prince, because life is no longer in them.

I think it's also meant to convey that Spencer is no longer human. His eyes aren't "dead", but they don't show human emotion because the alien isn't capable of feeling human emotion.

Yes, I agree with fcampe & tenacious. He often gave deep glances in this movie, sometimes it can melt me (I love Johnny's eyes, I think his eyes are really attractive! ) & sometimes it can scary me, a bit creepy & freak glance.

Johnny's character in this movie is quieter & mysterious than his usually roles, so he rarely gives different eyes expressions . And because he isn't our main point of view, we don't know how he feels, how he thinks, so yeah, just like you saw him in this movie. If he did excessive facial expressions in this role, I think it can ruin the character itself.
