Integral plot question: Jeff Bridges' blue contact lenses.

Did anyone else think they were obvious in the closeup taken when he first spied on the delivery company near the outlet shopping center, or notice them sooner?

I'm sure they were contacts - the blue iris ring floated above the cornea and didn't dilate with the rest of his eye.

Wondering if wearing fake contacts was somehow integral to either the plot or the role.

I suspect it was done to make him look crazier.

I'm not sure if you mean he's wearing clear contacts which would explain why they didn't want him eating glasses for certain scenes.

But you mention his iris which may mean you're referring to him wearing fake blue contacts, as far as I know he has blue eyes naturally. Just check every other film he has made.
