The bit at the end with the brown and blue eyes would have been more symbolic if at least one of the two actually had had blue eyes to start with!!!!!!!
Still, there is no reason to assume that this was impossible. They could each have been carrying one blue eyed gene whilst having light grey eyes (him) and brown eyes (her).
I'm not 100% sure on this but from what I can tell James Spader has Blue Eyes, very light blue though!!
Also its been known to happen that two people with the same colored eyes can actually have a child with a completely different eye color all together. I know a couple whos eldest son has Brown eyes and they both have blue, he also has a brother and sister who both have blue eyes, I suppose its just the pick of the gene pool draw so to speak!!!
