Great Film... but Several BAD versions out there

As I said many, many years ago.

This film was so good I watched it over 180 times in 3 months.

However, I bought the DVD at the SunGhost Video when I kept being drawn
to it each time I went there. The DVD has really great extra scenes (the Freaky Squeaky Guy) and the film itself is pretty complete. (At the end the first time I saw it I was afraid to touch the disc out of the drive or I would burn the Universe up)

I have also illegally downloaded it onWeb and what I got was quite different. Must have been a version on HBO or something. It was incomplete with many missing scenes, and just plain and not good. The trailer for the movie is also COMPLETELY misleading, there is stuff in it that is not even in the movie.

Apparently, a LOT of material was filmed for this movie, and then it was just kind of pieced together (production problems or something), so maybe the store bought DVD I got was an improved version from the original, or the one that people see is a sorry version of what I bought. It is a SUPERFUN movie. They really need to release this on Blu-Ray with ALL of the Extra material that they filmed, so that we can make sense of what the movie could have been. There are pictures, Fangoria, extra scenes and all sorts of fun stuff that would be GREAT to see.

I have it on a VHS I was given a few days ago. I had seen it in theaters 10 years ago and kinda liked it although it made no effin sense in so many ways, but it was well done, compared to some scenes in 'Lost in Space'.
Unfortunately, the vhs I watched tonight made me think about how much has probably been cut, and how short it is.It could have been better.
Damn, like, 4 people die within 5 minutes, the whole damn crew!!! Lou diamond Phillips could have defended himself better LOL

"Suck my b*tch,D*ck!"

From what I've seen, the best way to get an idea of what was filmed is to check out 1999/2000 era film magazines. Quite a few publicity photos were released of things that were not only cut but clearly would not fit the final version of the story we got. I posted awhile back about it, but particularly the Jan 2000 Fangoria has pictures of Peter Facinelli's transformation as an almost demon like creature where he even sports rows of jagged teeth. The MGM official site even features photos of scenes that were completely cut. There's a lot of publicity stills of James Spader searching the mining colony and finding cocooned miners and exploring many rooms absent from the theatrical cut and the deleted scenes.

It's very frustrating to me, one of the few fans, to find next to no information of the extensive, 2 year production. With atleast 2 $10 million reshoot sessions, 3 editors making seperate films, and obviously overhauled stories each time, it is obvious the version we got was a cut and paste story. And at that I think considering it's history, they managed a watchable film.
I still would love to see the other versions, or atleast read up on them since the pics we saw just wet our lips and explain nothing...
