Why Did Karl's Face Change

I was watching while multi-tasking. Did I miss something when Karl's face started morphing into a no-eyebrow vampire looking thing? I understand he was "mutating and getting younger," but I don't think that constitutes his face looking the way it did.

Probably to make him scarier.
Although he did have a "strange bone growth", which could have caused his face to change.
His muscular mass was also deformed if you look at his arms.

2 years late but...

Karl was supposed to evolve into some sort of demon/monster under Walter Hill's vision. Unfortunately due to studio meddling this is what we got.
