Call me crazy, but I actually like this movie

The visuals are actually quite beautiful and impressive, and the plot, in terms of the object, its affect on people, and its concept of replenishing the universe I thought was pretty interesting and origional. The music is also very good, and although people would say that there is too much, the sex scenes in the zero-gravity "chamber" or whatever were actually pretty tastefully done. I don't know, what do you guys think? But if your gonna comment, please say something intelligent and worth reading and not just a bunch of comments like, "Your crazy, this movie sucks!"

I know I can't spell to save my life, but I don't care

You're not crazy, it's quite good. If nothing else, it's a treat to see James Spader and Angela Basset in leading roles.

Agree with the OP 100%. If this movie has any shortcomings its due to its troubled production; after all, Walter Hill received an 'Alan Smithee' credit for it(actually, that name has been discontinued and this is the first film to use the new psuedonym, Thomas Lee). Despite that, the plot idea is interesting, the entire cast gives great performances and there is excellent eye candy.

Sure, its not up there with the likes of "Bladerunner" or "Alien" but there's much worse out there than this movie(and most have been MSTed thoroughly lol).

BTW, anyone ever read the Isaac Asimov novella, "The Gods Themselves"? I think that's where the writers got their inspiration for this. Although, the writers for this movie make the 'aliens' a bit more malevolent(in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Hill's original vision more closely resembled Asimov's story). Here's the wiki for "The Gods Themselves" if you're interested:

Adding 'solved' to your post is a RECOMMENDATION not a rule. Get a life, board nazis.

I've read it. Don't really see the similarity at all, other than that the word "supernova" is used in both.

ME TOO!! And, It was to about a planet that was going to supernova because of the alien weapon...

I like it, too. I didn't realize people didn't like this movie.

I enjoyed the movie. The visuals, plot and the cast were very good considering it wasn't a high budget movie. I plan to buy the Blu Ray version if it's available.

I like this movies but I can see from what they said about what was going on during production that this movie could have been better.

Yes! I totally agree. When I saw the trailer I expected to watch some sort of soft porn/sexploitation bad taste pseudo Sci-Fi; but I got nicelly surprised when this movie turned out to be an interesting beautifully photographed work of actual Sci-Fi.
I don´t understand why other users called it stupid, I really found the Ninth-dimensional stuff really interesting. I also loved some scientifically accurate details, like the asphixiation in the vaccum of space, the light speed travel and things (please, don´t say anything about sound effects in outer space... Please!).
It´s true. The influence of other similar movies is present all the time; movies like Alien, The Abyss or Event Horizon come to your mind while watching this, but not to a level that bothers you.
In conclussion, I think if sci-Fi is not your cup of tea, you should really avoid this movie. If it is, give it a try, it will not disappoint.

Add me to your list.
I enjoyed it quite a bit. Loved the atmosphere.
Never cared for Spader until I saw him in this. Thought all the actors did a good job.
Movie wasn't perfect, but plenty good enough for me.

thanks to streaming on netflix, I just happened to watch this last night. not bad! a bit too much sex... not that I have anything against sex or sex in movies, but it seemed like filler in this film. filler and/or cheap sales technique to lure teens in? I dunno...
still, Spader did a good low-key performance that was james woods-like in some ways. the idea of some advanced race somewhere seeding a property fence with pan dimensional bombs was pretty excellent... I bet real nerds could nitpick this apart in minutes, but as a contemporary SF b-movie, it was fun.
