Question About Opening Scene???

Ok so i know that the girl and the cop both die in the opening scene. Now the only time i remember them being mentioned again in the movie is during the scene where Dickie and the rest of The Blue Ribbons beat the crap out of his car...Gavin says that Steves a "non-believer" and Steve mockingly goes "about the mysterious dissaperances of Mary Joe ??? and Officer ???" Is there any other mentioning of them or is that it??? Also when Gavin first walks into the boiler room with Steven to smoke he mentions a girls name and talks about her dissaperance but the name doesnt sound like Mary Jo...Does anyone know what girl he was talking about??? LOL...Thanks to anyone that can answer the questions.
