Alternate Ending? (Spoilers)

I've seen this movie about thirty times, I love it, but I've just looked at the quotes here on IMDB, and this quote makes me wonder if there's an alternate ending or something? Here's the quote:

"U.V.: [shoots Gavin to prevent him from shooting Rachel and Steve]
Gavin Strick: [falls to the ground, bleeding] Three times? You had to shoot me three times?
U.V.: [voice breaking] Sorry, man.
Gavin Strick: Wow. I get to say to my twisted family... I guess this diminishes my chances of ever meeting Trent Reznor...
[about to die]
Gavin Strick: Wow, I guess I'm finally coming around... "

I thought I knew this movie pretty well, but since I own the VHS version, I don't have extra scenes, and I don't have it in english, my version's in french, so maybe they say something different, but still, I'd remember it if Gavin had been shot, and I've seen the original english version on TV and I don't remember that scene in this version either... I think I once read something about alternate endings, but I just can't recall where, maybe it's here on IMDB, but I don't know.

Before I saw the film, I read the novelization of Scott Rosenberg's screenplay, and yes, the original ending was much different. Gavin dies, accompanied by the dialogue you mentioned, and Steve, his sister, and U.V. sail off into the sunrise.

Meanwhile, back in Cradle Bay... remember the little girl that Steve's sister brought home with her early in the film as a "study buddy" (if you blinked, you missed it)? Well, she's on stage at the middle-school participating in a spelling-bee. She spells her word correctly, then takes her seat, where, unseen by the audience, something glows briefly behind one of her eyes...

As far as I can tell, that ending was never even shot. Pity; it was better than the ending they used. Oh well.

Cool! Thank you! I didn't know there was such a different ending in the screenplay! But you say that Gavin dies and that Steve, Lindsay and U.V. escape, but what about Rachel? She wasn't in the original script? Oh, and yeah I do remember Lindsay's friend, the alternate ending then means that Steve's sister would have been pretty close to be "turned into a robot" as well! But she came close to that in this version too, when she got a little blue ribbon at school.

Sorry, I forgot about Rachel. Yeah, she was with Steve, Lindsay and U.V. when the ferry sailed. Try to find the novelization if you can; it's a short book and can't possibly cost more than a few bucks on eBay. I don't have it myself and I can't remember the name of the author, but you probably won't have much trouble locating a copy.

Cheers!

Thanks! There seems to be a bunch of them on Amazon.com and at the Chapters/Indigo bookstores! The authors, if those websites are right, are John Whitman and Scott Rosenberg.

Yeah, that's the one. Whitman is the author; Rosenberg was credited because he wrote the screenplay upon which the book was based. The book almost reads like an adaptation for "young readers," mainly because Whitman's style is a little too simplistic for my personal taste. Oh well, if you're one of those fans who just has to have as many tie-in items as possible (like me with "Silent Hill"), you might as well pick it up.

Yeah, I'm one of those fans who has to have everything related to my favorite movies/music/books/artists... I don't buy much online though, I usually just go drive the clerks at local stores crazy! Thanks for all the infos!

If you're the type that has to have everything, I'm sure you're aware that "Disturbing Behavior" has two soundtrack albums, right? One is a compilation of songs by various artists; the other is the original score by "X-Files" composer Mark Snow. If you're lucky enough to find the latter, drop me a line and tell me if it's any good. I imagine it isn't anything to dance to, but the kids in Cradle Bay don't dance anyway. They don't smile, either...

Don't worry about snakes in the garden when you've got spiders in your bed. :)

Wow.. I wanna find the score. I love the score.

This movie, after ten years, is still impacting as hell. I love Gavin's character: "Yogurt shop.. shoppe.. what the *beep* is a shoppe?"

Prepare to meet Kali... in hell!

Yea the soundtrack is good but the score really has that creepy piano music. I got em both and LOVE EM!

The DVD has the alternate ending with Gavin getting shot and its pretty cool and IMO better then the ending they ended up having.

I thought the alternate ending was very cool, but one line that I loved [mainly the delivery by Nick Stahl, though]...

"Now why did you have to go and **** THINGS UP?!?!"

Great line and even greater delivery.
