uncut, darker, weirder director's cut on DVD available HERE !!!!

I remember back, in 1999, reading in Fangoria about director David Nutter’s original cut of this flick. He said it was darker, weirder and made for a bit more of a complete and satisfying film.
Now, this back before DVD was really a severely dominate format, before work prints and many director’s cuts leaked into the mainstream, before scripts heavily leaked and dorky websites let people download them…
People claimed the only way to experience/view these scenes and view the film in its original form was to read the novelization (those things were big back then, they’ve kinda tapered off in this day and age… do they even still do them?... anyhow, if you’ve ever read a lot of them you’ll find that they typically are written from the first draft of the film’s script and often contain TONS of missing scenes, dialogue and alternate endings, etc.).
Well, this website has it. Complete with the nihilistic ending (with Nick Stahl and a shotgun), the sex scene between James Marsden and Katie Holmes, more on William Sadler’s pseudo-idiotic janitor, and a bit more on the suicide of James Mersden’s brother (I believe, played by Ethan Embry).
Anyhow, here’s the link…

Have you actually purchased this dvd?
I'm curious if this is just the movie with select deleted scenes 'fan' cut back into it.

I have purchased it.
I remember reading in Fangoria (back in 1999) about a slew of deleted scenes and how the studio forced the director to cut out about 1/3 of his movie, including some pretty vital stuff, character development and an entirely different ending.
Supposedly (and this was during the heyday of VHS when DVD was still infantile) the only way to "see" these scenes was to read the original draft of the screenplay or purchase the novelization (essentially the same thing).

This print has, presumably, all the stuff cut out.

Now, I've never seen the DVD (I only ever owned the VHS because I figured "what's the point... the movie's butchered to ribbons on DVD?").

But, anyhow, this DVD contains the long-lost sex scene between James Marsden and Katie Holmes' character, a COMPLETELY different ending and (if I recall correctly) some more development regarding William Sadler's off-kilter janitor character.

I don't know if these scenes are already on the DVD (as I said, I've never seen it).

But, to my knowledge this is the most complete version of the film and is the version (supposedly) the director wanted audiences to see.

Make of it what you will.

I actually bought the dvd...it was one of the 1st i bought when i got my 1st dvd...and i ABSOLUTELY LOVE this movie. All of the deleted scenes are there...its actually one of the better movies put out. And the alternate ending is a doozy when u remember the original.

Damn. How's the PQ on the deleted scenes that are put back into the movie?

I have it on dvd and if you go to the special features it has the deleted scenes with the alternate ending. I think the alternate ending should of been used instead. I don't like the ending they used after I saw the alternate ending. The others is the missing scenes that were cut. Too bad they cut out the other scenes. It would of made the movie much better.

Picture Quality is good..i actually wish someone would make a version w'all the deleted scenes back in. I have both the book and the vhs...i just love this movie always have. The book paints a march darker picture and the deleted scenes do just that. The way the film was edited you really lose a lot. If someone were to cut them back in you would get a much better idea of what the filmmaker was shootin for.

I'm thrown by the mention of you buying the dvd a year ago and never watching it... or am I not understanding you right?

I would love to see a fan re-edit with the scenes or a real directors cut, but I wouldn't buy one if even the film's biggest fans wont. haha

Maybe someday streaming I will get to see it.

I sure hate the ending in the original... kinda lowers the whole film. If Frankenstein is dead, how is his monster supposed to continue his work? Reverse engineer his eye with some new scientists and psych nurses? Seems like a few years at least had to have passed too if he is a student teacher.

Just seemed very forced and didn't have the ending I read about in the quotes section. BTW, I hate it when alternative ending/deleted scene quotes show up in the IMDb quotes section with no notes to indicate those moments aren't even in the film. At first I feel like I am losing my mind when I see quotes from a favorite movie and think... "when the heck did that happen?!" Would it be so hard for IMDb to separate out a section for that and let us move those quotes to the bottom of the page? Past the spoiler section into a sorta quotes section.

I own the MGM DVD, and while it doesn't have the deleted scenes and original ending woven back into the film, it does include them all on the disc. Having watched them all, I agree, they take what is otherwise a pretty run-of-the-mill teen horror movie and turn it into a damn good one. What the studio did with this film was disgraceful. David Nutter described it in the commentary for one of the deleted scenes, how studios think that teenagers are morons who will just shell out however much money for any movie aimed at their demographic, not paying attention to the reason why Scream was so popular in the first place.
