Body Snatchers is a rip off of Puppet Masters. Puppet Masters was inspired by the fear of Communism (Red Panic as opposed to blue ribbon panic.)
But I do love to hear about the homage trails back to the oldest story we can pinpoint. And hearing that short stories became feature length films is always fun. Anthologies can be great inspirations for full length one story films.
