Is it me or

Is this film EXACTLY the same as 'The Faculty'? Does anyone else think this? Similar in a way that something comes into town and everyone (mostly the teenagers) are acting in a weird behaviour. And also they both use versions of 'Another Brick In The Wall' by Pink Floyd

reply

Definitely similar, but The Faculty is a masterpiece in comparison in just about every area..

Hands down Disturbing Behaviour is the better film. Faculty is pure trash compared to DB. The suspense, the acting, the characters were all better compared to the swill that Faculty gave us.

reply

faculty trash??? are you nuts???

reply

No I did like the faculty to be honest. Im just more partial to DB is all. I do enjoy Faculty I actually have both movies I just thought DB had the better story line is all. Plus Usher trying to be cool and all....that kinda sunk the movie for me. But on the plus side Faculty does have Famke Jensen that was always a plus for me.

reply

Wow, that was a quick jump back to defend a film you called trash.

I much prefer The Faculty to this film because this film apparently was missing much of the good stuff that the director wanted in it. The ending completely sucked, and much of the dialogue was mumbled through or fell on the cheezy side ("hey teacher, leave them kids alone" -- hey, who is he talking to?).
The character development was just not really there and the side story with his brother killing himself felt out of nowhere.

And how is Usher trying to be cool what killed The Faculty? What do you mean trying? He has been a celebrity for many years. Many people think he is cool, so him playing a popular kid is not odd. That's what being popular is all about, having enough people call you cool. Doesn't matter if you or some "freak/geek/loser/nerd/burnout" in school doesn't think so.

The Faculty was so much funnier and it had a great cast with all the classic archetypes of high school/horror movies --> The jock, the scholar, the whore, the fool and the virgin... Elijah Wood. It's a great comparison piece for Cabin in The Woods, and Jon Stewart wears an eye patch in the credits! It's lots of fun. I love the "f_<_ you" couple. That was a swell touch to put the icing on the cake. Plus the only thing that can stop the establishment is mind altering drugs. It's so good, Cabin in The Woods reuses that message. That's a much better message than rat deterrent noises in Disturbing Behavior.

Disturbing behavior could have been so much better. Not bad by any means, as I liked the overall anti lemmings message, and it was entertaining enough. Very similar to X-files episodes as well, which gave it that added oomph that keeps the story dark and amusing. But The Faculty had better dialogue and the ending was classic. Things are better, but not great. Ensuring freedom never brings perfection. Hence, "Not the pole!"

And I have heard on numerous occasions that The Faculty is a ripoff, but that's why they make fun of the idea in The Faculty by saying Body Snatchers is a rip off of Puppet Masters. as Someone who has taken writers workshops, writers are taught at the beginning that everything is a rip off of something else. There are only so many plots in all of literature. The key to me is making the most entertaining/meaningful version with the best dialogue/cast/directing/etc.

i agree DB was hands down better.

Well, they are all the same: Disturbin Behavior, Stepford Wives, The Thing, The Faculty, The Invasion... all based on the book The Body Snatchers

reply

I think The Stepford wives is based on the book The Stepford wives ....

You are correct

The Thing was based upon a short story "Who Goes There?" written by John Campbell. Facts please....

other than some very slight differences, i completely agree. i was thinking that throughout the whole movie, and then when the janitor said "hey, teacher, leave those kids alone!" i was thinking, "COME onnnnn!"

This movie was more of a conspiracy theory nut movie than the other. In this one the whole Town is in on the cover up

every day may not be good, but there is good in every day

Ha! I actually came on here to say the same thing! They are definitely VERY SIMILAR in a lot of ways... they were both released the same year too... which is interesting to note.

I was 18 when these movies came out and I loved both of them... which makes sense considering I was pretty much their exact target audience.

Now... I actually happened to, by coincidence, watch BOTH of these movies today... and I must say that, as much as I love The Faculty (and I really do), Disturbing Behavior is BY FAR the superior film. It's MUCH more intelligent than The Faculty... the characters are really well drawn out... the acting is top-notch (especially from Nick Stahl, he's fantastic)... even the photography, the production design and the general atmosphere of the whole movie are extremely well done... the bleak and dismal colors and settings are quite fitting, they definitely add to the mood and intensity of the film.

As a whole, Disturbing Behavior just feels like it had more thought, effort, and love put into it than The Faculty... which unfortunately, (and I say this with the deepest regret), feels quite shallow in comparison.

Besides... any movie with William Sadler is a plus in my books! ;o}
