The Janitor

I've always wondered what the point of that scene with Marsden and Sadler was about...the one where he finds the book in the janitor's coveralls, there's this kind of weird understanding that goes back and forth between them, like Marsden's character realizes he's some prodigy genius or something and that Sadler is in hiding.

I don't know, it just always felt like there was something implied going on there I never quite 'got'.

He was reading a Kurt Vonnegut novel, something that would be beyond his understanding if he were truly "challenged". So the whole Boo Radley routine was all an act to keep himself under the radar, away from the bad guys.

Maybe you guys should read Kurt Vonnegut novels...

I agree, Biohazard-05. Even though I love Nick Stahl, from Carnivale, I thought William Sadler was the best thing in this movie.

By the way, the Lunch Boy nickname came from the fact the Blue Ribbon drones kicked James Marsden's butt in the cafeteria at lunch. The Custodian witnessed the whole thing.

Sadler and Marsden's characters bonded because there are both Vonnegut fans and because they kept the janitor's secret of playing dumb.

Life is never fair, and perhaps it is a good thing for most of us that it is not.
