One thing I always remembered about this movie...

was that it was the first movie I so vividly remembered there being scenes in the trailer that were not in the movie. Went to see it in the theatre back when it was released and afterwards me and my friends were like, "what even happened to that part from the commercial? It wasn't in it at all!"

Funny enough I never got or watched the DVD to know why as I never thought it was that impressive a movie. Fast-forward to today and some random IMDBing and find out that a bunch of the movie was cut due to studio orders, and now it all makes sense! LOL. Just reading the descriptions of a lot of the deleted scenes (and the alternate ending) seems like this movie would have be a lot better how the director intended it.

Now I'm interested in watching it again with the removed stuff. So, I go on Amazon and look up the Blu-ray, only to find out it's not on BD yet! DVD is ridiculously priced as well, though can probably be had for cheap on eBay/kijiji I guess. But then I wouldn't want to watch it on anything bigger than my tablet.

No scheduled release for BD either...looks like MGM has screwed this movie over once again!

See I saw the movie but not the trailer, what was missing?

I think there was more than one part but one particular scene in the trailer stood out...

There's a part where James Marsden's character goes to Nick Stahl's character's house, looking for him. His mom answers the door and tell's him, "Gavin's a good boy now." At the time me and my friends thought this was hilarious; we would repeat the line, make jokes about it, etc. and so were counting on it to be in the movie. However when we went to see it, none of us could recall it actually being in the movie after we exited the theatre. So naturally we were like, "That wasn't even in it! That sucked!"

For us, not seeing that would have been like going to see Ransom and not hearing Mel Gibson's character say, "Gimme back my son!" LOL. (Of course you have to wait almost that whole movie to hear him say but at least he does say it!.)

Back then we never really thought about the underlying reasons for things to be in the trailer but not in the movie--we just thought the moviemakers pulled one over on us and "made us" go see the movie for that stuff, lol.

The trailer can be seen here:

I haven't seen the movie in a long time so I don't remember what else, if anything, was left out of the theatrical version but I think there may have been other parts. The "good boy" bit is seen at approximately 1:12 in the above link.

Or like not having Arnold say "I'll be back" in the Terminator. Or Like not having Sylvester Stallone saying "Go for it" in Rocky III. Yep. Uh huh.

This happens with almost every movie. Tons of movies every year have stuff in trailers that isn't in the movie. Hell avengers age of ultron the biggest movie of the year did too
