I watched the last 3/4 of the movie today, so maybe its just something that happened earlier in the movie, but I recall a very similiar movie where there was a radio tower or something that was controlling everyone and it got destroyed in the end.
What movie was that? And wasn't the premise just about the same?

No people. There's a little-known movie called 'Strange Behavior' (1981) that concerns mind control of teenagers. It has some of the worst "ewww" moments I've ever seen in a movie. It's actually a very 'disturbing' flick. When I first heard about 'Disturbing Behavior' I thought it was a remake.

This movie made me think of Pleasantville but Stepford Wives is more closely related to it than Pleasantville.

The Stepford Wives is the most obvious comparison, but an Australian film from the 1981 known as both Dead Kids and Strange Behavior is actually VERY similar.
