Studio BS

This film is solid in its shown version. Not great but I like it more than most of the late 90's crop of High School Horror films. However, you can tell this had so much more to offer and was hacked by the Studio. Nutter had a great script, he's a very capable Director and MGM just had to destroy his Vision. It's a damn shame. Still a good film. Love the score and soundtrack and the main cast.... Just seems like it's not a complete work.

Completely agree! In fact, that's why I came to the message boards, wondering wtf ?? I just watched again for the first time, in years, and my first thought was I must have dosed off, skipped forward or done something wrong..........they've obviously cut scenes that really should not have been cut; I'm not sure why they did it, perhaps to keep it under 90 minutes ?????? Regrettable, as it had potential!

............ I mean to say it had the potential to be an excellent film, whereas, the released film is very good.

This movie is easily one of the worst examples of studio interference in the 1990's. Studios were really, really bad for interfering with movies in the mid to late 90's as they were paranoid about bombs and tried to change movies thanks to test screenings. Cuthroat Island being such a mega bomb that it killed Carolco helped make the rest of Hollywood overly paranoid.

Weinstein was the worst for it then; he ruined 3 movies in just a year in 1996 (Hellraiser 4, Crow 2, and Halloween 6 in 1995.) Artisan ruined Blair Witch 2 as well. This was up with BW 2 and Crow 2 in terms of being a case of hideous interference. MGM was doing what it was doing due to bad test screening reviews which was idiotic. They found the movie too slow and long and forced cuts which made the movie not make any sense.

If they had left it alone it coulda done better. Plus releasing it in the summer against a ton of competition and Saving Private Ryan was just idiotic. They were begging for it to fail. Shame on MGM.
