Why didn't this go anywhere?

It had a great cast with big names: Holmes and Stahl along with a gorgeous Marsden.

I thought it was actually pretty good also...and I usually hate these types of movies. I enjoyed the social satire theme tremendously. William Sadler, a pre-Tom-Cruise-Katie Holmes and Nick Stahl were all pretty good. Stahl especially.

The Soundtrack was great too..."Got you where I want you" by The Fly's is one of my favorite songs. This movie reminds me of my time in High School for some reason. I was a Sophomore back then.

As to why the film bombed? Hell if I know...most people didn't like it and I can definitely understand. It DOES kind of have a pretty silly unbelievable plot, but to me it was a straight up popcorn flick with great themes of social satire.

Thanks!

Are there any movies that are similar to this? I'd love to see something!

It had a feel of been there, done that, seen it already.

Personally I enjoyed it a lot, especially because Joey Potter (Katie Holmes) was in it.

I think it would have been better as a halloween release than a late summer release.

There was several big reasons why this one just never took off.

-The biggest and main reason why was due to MGM itself. They wouldn't leave the director alone from the time he signed on thru the release day. Their biggest idotic mistake was forcing edits on the movie which made it a mess. The original length was 115 minutes however they found it too long and cut out important plot point scenes which helped the movie to make sense and as a result it's all over the place. They were trying to make it be something it wasn't and it's resulting release was one no one liked. If it had been allowed to be what the director wanted it coulda done much better.

-Released it at the wrong time of the year; summer of 1998 was packed solid full of hits and it was put up against Saving Private Ryan it had no chance. Shoulda saved it to October or November it woulda done much better on it's own. It also had to go up against Halloween H20 which came out the next month so it was too busy of a summer.

-There was also the Faculty which came out a few months later. It had an all star cast and a lot of money behind it. This meanwhile was the opposite. People were hyped for the Faculty this not so much. The theme song for the movie by the Flys did well but the movie itself just wasn't marketed well.
