Who thought Jonathan Brandis was the best thing about this film?

Well, finally took me nearly ten years to see this film. It was worth the wait. History text books always leave out this sort of thing. But now that I've had time to see this film and reflect, I am very sad at what ten years can do. This film was shot in 1998 and featured a cornucopia of virtual unknowns at the time. Half the cast went on to bigger and better things. But seeing their performances and what they've done since then has got me to thinking. Skeet Ulrich was well known for Scream and well is pushing forty as his show was just canceled and though he's likable, I felt that he's a very weak actor. Toby Maguire went on to cling from buildings as Spider man but I thought he seemed like he was on valium throughout the film and kept expecting him to fall off his horse. Simon Baker went on to t.v. and film and now back to t.v.(don't expect that show to last long!) Mark Ruffalo has done this and that and I forgot most of what he's done as well as the guy who looked like a girl. Jonathan Rys-Meyers looks too effeminate in this movie with the long locks and most of what he's done since this movie came out is laughable. Jewel..who was the dumb dumb who suggested she try out for this movie? She's really bad in this movie and I'm really sorry I had to sit through the almost hour length love triangle involving old Toby and Skeet. Couldn't they have chosen another actress for that part? Anyway, I'm particularly saddened over Jonathan Brandis who did an awesome job in this movie and didn't have enough screen time. But for what it's worth, his talent is noticeable here and it's a shame Hollywood didn't appreciate that. I see this movie and know that he's no longer with us and see all the actors that have gone on to these little careers and wonder why they were chosen and not him. He was a far better actor than Toby and Skeet and the European actors they chose to play Southerners! See it for JB and try to forget the agony that's Jewel as Sue Lee! I'm still laughing over that one!

Oh, and that Simon Baker thing, it's now the #1 show on T.V.

Sorry but Tobey Maguire, Simon Baker and Jeffrey Wright were excellent in this. And, as Cleveland from Family Guy puts it about Ulrich "there nothing good about who you are and what you do". Says it all.

A strange film. It's not really sure if it's a war film, a film about friendship and what on earth is going on with Jewel's character? I hate it when they put a woman in the story just for the sake of it.

lmao yeah right. He was perfectly ridiculous, just like the rest of the talentless pretty boys they cast in that movie. Only real actors they had were Jeff Wright and James Caviezel.
