I can't believe it was such a huge financial lost...

I liked this movie more than a lot of other Disney films, I wish they could've picked a better time to release it. 10 years of work in vain. That must really suck for the guys who were pushing so hard to make it, because it WAS good but I bet they didn't get to hear that from too many people.

not really, If I would have a dream of creating something big and get one chance to do it. I would take it, even if it would fail and take me a long time to make. Not every thing is ment to succeed. Still, I bet they dont regret anything, the producers are the one's who have something to regret.

Getting the chance to follow your dream is the greates reward.

I completely agree; particularly after all the attempts to get the film approved before. I really enjoyed the movie. Hopefully it's 10th anniversary edition will be more appreciated by today's technologically driven public.

After Mulan and Tarzan, this is the only Disney classically animated (non-CGI) film that I genuinely enjoy enough to watch over and over again.

Sure, it's not ground-breaking, but it's got energy that Atlantis and other classically animated Disney films of the mid and late 2000's don't have. It engages me in a way those others don't.

Jim was emotionally troubled but not in an annoying way, the comic sidekicks provided just enough laughs, the Silver/Jim relationship had some genuine feeling to it, and the romance wasn't overdone.

It's no 'Beauty and the Beast', but it's fun and I like to watch it again every once in awhile.

It was really cool. Like Star Wars.

I agree - I thought it was fantastic... I don't care for modern animated features much at ALL. I haven't been interested in Disney movies since Robin Hood - and I strongly dislike CGI features........

THIS film, however - blew me away. I thought it was outstanding.... I can't fathom why it underperformed.... excellent movie!!

I think I sorta know why it flopped. In the previews for it, it only showed him solar surfing, and that was it. I remember going with my mom to see it in the movies, and she was skeptical because that was the only preview for it. She wouldnt have gone to see it if I didnt want to.

Maybe that's the reason?

Yeah, marketing definitely did suck. I was just glad to see that everyone who actually saw it liked it. Everyone on the board, at least.
And I do hate CGI. It's so cold. I miss traditional animation.

I think the competition in the market was too heavy. There was Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, James Bond and the Santa Clause 2 all around the same time. It seems the marketing initiatives were poor also as I don't remember any toys or trailers or promos etc. from it's release. It's such a pity though as it's a fantastic film. I think it would fare better if it were released now as animated releases are far fewer and with regard to gaming it would be spectacular if released with the Wii as it's leading platform.
