scientific problems

Now I realized that this movie is utterly impossible on various levels, but a couple major things seemed plain silly to me.

1) They have all that technology and couldn't tell that a star had used up almost all of its hydrogen and was going to go supernova?!?

2) A black hole still has the same gravitational pull (the same event horizon) as the star it was made from. Hence, the ship would not have been pulled into the star just because it turned into a black hole.

Just a couple annoying things that I wanted to point out....but i am sure that the children that watched this movie (and for whom it was created) didn't notice.

You're expecting scientific accuracy from a film in which 19th Century wooden ships sail through space, and catlike and doglike aliens breed?

It's science fantasy, friend--several steps to the fantasy side of Star Wars actually, which was pure fantasy with sci-fi trappings itself.

If you want science fiction, watch Gattaca or somethin'.
