Animation can get expensive. Just look at Tarzan ($150m), Kung Fu Panda ($130m), or WALL-E ($180m). This film isn't even in the Top 10 of most expensive animated movies anymore.

True. I just watched the extra's on the DVD and found out pretty much the whole RLS Legacy (the ship) was computer generated. Pretty awesome stuff.

I know the marketing in the Netherlands wasn't all that good, at least in my experience. Around that time, I normally knew about pretty much all Disney movies coming out, but I was only slightly aware of this one.
I only watched it a cuple of months ago, when I was free from college, got bored and decided to grab a list of Disney movies (there was a complete list of Disney DVD's in a magazine) and watch them on youtube.
Since then, I'm pretty much hooked, haha.
The marketing was bad pretty much everywhere, which highly accounts for its poor BO take.

i actually had the opportunity to see it for free when it was in theatres. AND I TURNED IT DOWN! i really regret it now.
