Any guys like this movie?
Do they or is it just girls that are TP fans because of Jim?

I'm a guy who likes this movie!
It's not as if Treasure Planet is missing an attractive female character; Captain Amelia, anyone?
I love it completely! I love the almost "steam-punk" feel, mixed with space pirates, laser pistols, and the massive cities and details. I WISH I could have seen this on the big screen, because it really needs to be done this way.
Meantime, I showed it to a budy of mine, (we're both in our early thirties) and he thougt the same thing. Never mind the great story and well done acting; but I had just finished reading treasure island and figured I'd give the movie a go. Next thing I know, I ended up liking the ending of the movie more then the book.
Consider:
1. Jim doesn't cost on his laurels living off treasure; he got enough to be respectable, help his mom out with her business, then enlisted as a cadet and graduated to become an ensign on a ship (leaving the door open to a sequel, if they bothered to think on it). How much more exciting and well done is that then Jim just having a pile of money to live the good life; score one for the movie.
2. The doctor and captain are both men in the book; the female captain allows a relationship to develop which allows a touch of romance in the story. In the book, written deliberately for young boys, Stephenson admits he wanted no women at all for his sons to have to read about and ask questions about (though he allowed the existence of Jim's mother, for that seemed propper). So Disney gave us a romance in a movie, typical; but it works here. Because it doesn't feel tacked on, and both the doctor and captain actually resemble their storybook natures that it wasn't even that much of a stretch. Plus, if they ever DO make a sequel, now you have the chance for Jim to be a young captain possibly taking one of the pups/kittens/children of the captain and doctor under his wing. Point 2 goes to the movie.
3. The ending of the book has Silver stealing some money from the ship (though just enough to be respectable, and not TOO much) and disapearing, leaving them to all wonder about his nature. In the movie, Silver has genuine reconciliation with Jim, and leaves with a touching moment after giving it all up for a boy he believes in. Much nicer ending, and much more emotional. Point 3 goes to the movie over the book.
4. Morph was simply far cuter and more personable then the parrot "Captain Flint". Point 4 to the movie.
5. Sadly we had to sit through B.E.N. who seems to take his acting cue's from Robbin Williams, but other then that one point that goes to the book... the movie wins; hands down!
By the way, if you were going to make a sequel of this, how would YOU want it done?

I wouldn't necessarily want a sequel, but I think a TV spinoff would kick major butt.
Supermodels...spoiled stupid little stick figures mit poofy lips who sink only about zemselves.
One of the best Disney movies. I'm a man and I just watched it tonight and it was magical experience.

Straight guy and enjoyed it since i saw it 2 times in theaters, Amelia is quite sexy i should say
"Killer Klowns from Outer Space? Holy S***"
I agree this is a good film
shareI'm a guy and this is probably one of my favorite Disney movies(my top 5 include Atlantis, Mulan, The Great Mouse Detective and Hercules). Disney should go back to making these type of films.
shareThis is one of the most remarkable films I had the pleasure of viewing in theaters. The advertising team who worked this film should have been fired on the spot. The reasons for this are as follows.
1. This film came out before the preceeding film was even released on video/dvd in its time (lilo and stitch). We never really got a chance to get that out of our systems especially when there was still a ton of hype going on for Lilo and Stitch.
2. The film was released during the winter of 2002. I know some people say timing shouldnt be an issue but when your looking at the overview of it all this definatly felt more like a summer time movie than a winter movie. ( but hey that could just be me.)
3. Disney had a run of badluck with animated feature film and this film at the time felt like another rush from Disney to yank another dollar from the pockets of loyal fans. The feature before this (brother bear) was a great film, but the films preceeding that were wishy washy for many audiences.
4. I think when people say the films of the 80's and 90's were Disneys banking films they may hold a point as the films in the late part of the 90;s and early part of the 00's didnt do as well as many of the earlier films. The film The Lion King is what set the standard of what an animated film ought to be.
5. I love it when people ask me what my favorite movie is and I say Treasure Planet. Its a hoot when I hear people say " Oh I didnt care for it, and when I ask what they didnt like about it I hear " Oh I didnt think it looked good so I didnt see it. This to me is so funny because its like saying the lion king sucks and someone asking me why you dont like it and responding oh I didnt see it. Really if your going to judge a movie jusge it for what you see not what you think you might see.
Anyway long story short this is one of Disney's most underrated films. I think if it got a shot back to theaters or had a little more exposer on television say as a special tv event this film might have a come back. I was happy when I got my son a plush morph from the Disney Store. Its so great to see that there is an audience for this film. I have 3 copies on dvd, I am just wondering when and if this will hit blu ray.
