I think they should do the tv series.

I have seen stories about how if Treasure Planet was successful they were going to do another movie and a possibly a tv series.

I never really gave the idea of a tv series much thought. The movie bombed financially and it was one of those projects that just faded away. However, I have seen a number of stories about how popular Treasure Planet was in rentals and now streaming.
What got me thinking about the tv series again was I just watched the first two seasons of The Legend of Korra and just marvel at how action packed it is with cool story lines playing out over a season.
It you read the plot for the proposed TP2 at the above link, you will see it is pretty interesting. I think they could easily get 12-15 half-hour episodes out of that plot.
They could present it as a special limited series on Disney XD. They could play the original movie a few times to build interest. They could offer it on a streaming service exclusively or in addition to Disney XD. Remember, the bulk of Korra's audience was watching that show through streaming services.
If it is popular, they can do additional seasons and build the franchise. If not, you have the episodes that can be played from time to time.
I think it would be cool.
