Planet of the Apes could be an anthology series

Planet of the Apes 2001 was certainly very flawed in execution, but I like how it was attempted to be creative and put a spin an original movies. I think they could have used it as a stepping off point to create an anthology of Ape movies, each self contained, but exploring the concepts of Man, Ape, time travel, and space travel in different ways. They could do a film based on the 1990s Return of the Apes script, and even one more faithful to the original novel. I think there could be a lot of possibilities to explore.

On an unrelated note, I can't believe it's been 15 years since this came out. I remember the anticipation on this board like it was yesterday.

The original goal with the 2001 film was to also have a tv series in between the film sequels. It was supposed to explain the journeys of the astronauts in the tv shows, fill in the timelines and expand the world. Unfortunately because of the response fo this film, it didn't work out. I think it's a great time for a tv series to expand the franchise.
