Conflicts with Rise of POTA mythology? (Spoilers)

So as soon as it became clear Leo wasn't on earth, and that the apes had evolved from those on the Oberon, my first thought was that this was completely at odds with the storyline I'd previously seen in Rise of POTA, where Caesar was effectively earth's equivalent of Semos. Seems to me that it was only the ending at the Thade Lincoln memorial back on earth that could serve to tie the two together, but even then it's a stretch. All I can assume is that Caesar led that uprising, but it was Thade (arriving on earth some time after that) who was the one who actually freed the apes from 'slavery'. So there are still effectively two planets of the apes, with Thade being the 'missing link' between the two,if you will.

That said, I'm not even sure if these really ARE supposed to be connected, is the later film(s) a rival franchise almost?
