Cops beating up Morpheus makes no sense

The whole situation after fighting Agent Smith - he only says 'Take 'im' (which is SO vague it boggles the mind - this is supposed to be a COMPUTER PROGRAM, precise and inhuman!), which could mean anything, but we can assume he means the cops should take Morpheus into custody.

Morpheus is beaten, he CLEARLY knows the cops will just beat him up if he resists, so..

.. WHY DOES HE KEEP FIGHTING? What's gained by this stupid action?

Why can't he just raise his hands and say 'OK, I will come quietly, just handcuff me' or something? Save yourself from a beating, you know?

Of course it's just his 'avatar' that gets beaten, but.. this movie tries to cling to the idea that it's just as bad to get beaten up in the simulation, because your mind SOMEHOW beats you up (so stupid)..

In any case, the whole situation makes no sense. Why would Morpheus basically ENSURE the cops beat him up, because they have no choice as long as he resists, instead of just give up and surrender and so on?

I guess the movie is trying to tell us the cops are so brutal they would just beat him up anyway, but in any case, it makes no sense.

If you read or watched US news about police and black people, I think you would have understood better about what happened there.

I think what the movie was trying to tell you mirrors the reality.

the thing I took from it was an (intentional) reverse-racist thing where he says "you all look the same to me"...

why did he fight? gotta try something I suppose
