I think it was It's All in the Game, by Tommy Edwards.

Correct. Tommy Edwards' recording was a big pop hit in 1958. What is surprising, though, is that the melody dates all the way back to 1911 . . . and was written by a banker (Charles Gates Dawes) who would become a US Vice-President under President Calvin Coolidge in 1925. The lyrics were added in 1951.
