When viewing the ending credits and seeing the 'What happened to them' old movie footage, I came to think, "Were those actual film footage of the actual people?". If so, how is everyone caught on film? I grew up in the 70s and 80s and there's no footage of me or any of my friends on film. Did they simply use actors in those old time films to depict the real characters?
shareIt is actual footageof the real people, it looks like it was taken with a Super 8 or 16mm camera. I've got some great home movies in color a great uncle of mine took in the 1940's and 50's.
shareThere's something about them; they just have that genuine 'feel' to them. This is the part of the movie that hits me the most I love it!
shareI'm pretty sure they're the real life folks portrayed in the
film. My uncles both used to shoot miles and miles of super8
and slide film on just about every major venture out of
their driveways! It didn't hurt that one of them was a Senior
Scientist in film dye development for Kodak, so it was more
than just a hobby. Every holiday when it was their turn
to host the family, we'd spend hours looking at these films.
We gathered around the projector and screen in the living room
with the fire crackling in the fireplace, and my Uncle Bill
accompying the silent films on the piano! Somethings the VCR
just couldn't replace!

They would not have put those bits of film in the end credits if they were not actual footage of the actual people.
I myself was born in 1955 and we have many old movies from our Super 8 camera from the 50s. It's not like we lived in caves back then you know.
I think most of the footage was taken after Homer's success at the science fair. I'm pretty sure it was great news for the entire state plus that region.
I believe most of those film clips were taken together at a certain point.
Just guessing.
I would like to know what happened to his brother!
