Miss R. and Homer
I didn't intentionally pick this up. We watched it in class, and apparently everyone hypothesized it...
But, didn't the movie portrait Ms. R as the primary romantic partner of Homer?

Well, let's see, she had Hodgkin's Disease (which is a cancer of the blood cells), and she knew it and died within 10 years of that. Those times when she wasn't at school, people thought she had a boyfriend in a neighboring town. In truth she was visiting doctors about her terminal illness.
She was beautiful and as Homer has said in reality, all the boys were had a crush on her - which is so true of that time. Homer was shown as being very interested in one girl (that his brother winds up dating, which was true) and another girl is shown as being interested in him, who he goes over and talks to at the last rocket launch. Oh, and he is in the car trying to talk to her on a date of sorts when he finds out his Dad is severly injured (there was another time with that girl... but that's another story).
Naw, don't think so (what you're suggesting is really a 1990's concept based on all the trashy news stories of 'older' teachers and young boys. Maybe now, but not there.)
The movie portrayed Valentine Carmina as Homer's main girlfriend. For about half the movie he is hung up on Dorothy, but she barely takes much interest in him.
Homer's attitude toward Miss Riley are somewhat romantic for a while but it is made clear she is out of the league of the HS boys and her interest becomes more of a motherly type / really cool older sister.
In the movie Dorothy is supposedly way hotter than Valentine: head cheerleader, etc etc., but Valentine is very cute in the Girl-next-door sense.
In the book Valentine is described as being much "faster" and, uhm, built much better, than the cheerleader babes, and Homer/ Sonny's sexy exploits are given some more coverage.
