What? This movie has a rating worse than the doom movie? No way, man, that's totally uncool. I had minimal exposure to WC before the movie, just knew the maverick, kilrathi, and other themes from the old win95 game, and i loved this movie, and i looked at some of the reasons that people don't like this movie and they are either nitpicking, or only minor grievances. When people say that movies based off videogames always suck I say "Yes, all of them, accept for Wing Commander"
I don't think it's that good of a movie (the whole Pilgrim thing is rather meh), but I still love Wing Commander. I'm still blown away by it every time that I watch it.
Eh...I didn't think Doom was that bad. Sure, it had some cheesy lines, but my only problem with it is that it wasn't a scary movie. If anything, it reminds me more of the original Doom than Doom 3 (which is what the movie should have been replicating more).
Did you get to see Silent Hill while it was in theaters? In my opinion, that's the best video game movie yet.

Yeah, I love this film, even though I know it isn't the best film out there. Besides, anyone who thinks that this is the worst video game film out there obviously hasn't seen any of Uwe Boll's flicks.

I saw this quite recently and overall it was okay, but nothing special. It was kind of dull because every cliche in the star fighter book is used (loss of another crewman, the inexperienced pilot, using some inner strength as well as having some unique trait, eventually becoming the hero, etc). There were also several things that bothered me, such as when the soldiers were called Marines, (no females in the Corps), and the earlier scene in the movie in which a commander tries to fire at the bullet-proof glass. Usuallly I wouldn't mind, but the weapon that he was firing with was a dressed up M-15 armed with a grenade launcher attachment. I have never played the games, so I won't comment.
Doom was good in comparison to other game-to-films (especially Uwe Boll). I had gotten a kick out of seeing the movie; it reminded me a lot of the old DOOM games that I used to play when I was nine. It lacked the aspect of Hell, but at least it tried to hint at it with the presence of the soul. I doubt that the games' satanic aspect was removed to prevent Christians from becoming upset, most likely budget reasons. Unless Hell was going to be depicted as a "happy place full of joy," that reason is out of the question. With Jurassic Park, it costs $120 million, which is why there is a T-REX, raptors, and so on. Try fitting all of that on a $60 million budget- not possible.
I liked Doom and consider Wing Commander one of the baddest movies ive ever seen. I saw WC at the movies, i think the night it came out and i remember people walking out saying i just paid $10 to see the Episode 1 trailer.
LOL indeed. i admit i have this film in my immense DVD collection (which will now be superceded by Blu-Ray DVD and/or HD-DVD thank you very much, powers that be) and i don't know why i have it, except that i love the Wing Commander universe, i've even written fan-fiction inspired by WC. the fact that Roberts directed it himself AND re-wrote the entire canon (as someone pointed out above) made this nothing more than those 80s space sci-fi flicks (Enemy:Mine and The Last Starfighter - both enjoyable but lacking something) i guess this will be consigned as i'm sure it already has been to the bargain bin of the 90s where it wasn't cool to make deep space sci-fi flicks - not even Phantom Menace. it's not worse than Doom, but it's no better either. films of games never pull it off. i've not seen Silent Hill though.
