Why did Chris Roberts choose to ruin the movie???

It should be easy for him to have hired the cast from the original FMV games and maybe made Wing Commander the Movie into a prequel to lets say Wing Commander 3. Hell even the spacecraft in WCM didn't look anything like the sleak design from WC3 and WC4. Was their hope that choosing the cast to be from She's all that they could attract the non-geek Cinema goers???

I mean Malcolm MacDowell, Mark Hamil etc. They don't star it that many A-list movies neither in 1999 or now for that matter!

What happened Chris Roberts??? I loved WC3 and WC4 and why CR choose to ruin the attempt at putting the story on big screen I would like to know?

I'm a Conservative, and thats my opinion on this matter.

Malcom McDowell WAS actually cast as Admiral Tolwyn but because of scheduling conflicts with Fantasy Island he dropped out of the film. As for the others he wanted to do an origin story so he needed younger actors to play the parts. I think a story about an aging pilot is more interesting than another dumb coming-of-age teen movie (that's what Wing Commander 2 and 3 are about and they were great) but apparently Chris Roberts thought otherwise.

Regardless of that, the casting and design choices were absolutely horrible I agree.

Never assume the director or producer is responsible for everything.

I'm finding a lot of crap films that should have been amazing have suffered due to things forced on them by the controlling studio, most of whom have no idea what the film is supposed to be or how movies are made.

My biggest issues was the fighter designs ... and how combat was in the game.. felt I dunno pushed

I doubt all the blame is on Chris Roberts. I have no doubt the lead actors were the studio's choice.

I would have been fine if they recut WC3 or WC4 and made that the movie.

I've often wondered that myself. The Games were great. Even though they were diffrent actors.
They could have kept the feel of the games. The look of the ships were diffrent. They should
have kept the same game music. But done by an orchestra. and etc..
