With youtube and other streaming websites. Bowfinger could make shows on a limited budget but not have to worry about distributors too much. Equipment is much more manageable and his actors could get the exposure they desire. The various software would overcome his limitations in the FX department.
I think it's funnier when they're trying to do something that's difficult.

He's saying that Bobby Bowfinger (the character) would have an easier time in today's market making a career for himself.
I agree, technology, equipment, and opportunities for making films are simply much cheaper and easier to obtain. Someone can get their hands on a quality digital camera and an editing computer/software for less than a grand. Then, publishing is free on something like YouTube.

I understood what the OP was saying. The fictional character of Bowfinger would be able to produce content, without having to worry about going through a studio.
My point was though, that wouldn't make an entertaining film. So what difference does it make?
