Grow up Little Conan?

For some reason I felt in the mood to look into this series again. It cuts off long ago with the english version, but I haven't forgotten it since then. While I'm not exactly a passionate fan of mysteries or teen detectives, I have come to adore Jimmy as Conan in his role in the lives of others.
While looking back on the series again I saw the lengthy list of movies, episodes and manga that seem unending. Because of this I considered Conan's time spent solving cases. More specifically, I was wondering why his age doesn't appear to change; or rather why he won't grow just a little bit.
I know other series keep characters the same age for the story, but I suppose the thought came from a few fanfics about an older Conan - very few. (Like I said earlier I adore Conan).
I'd like to see him and the detective boys gain a little maturity. Some manga do increase the age of their characters and the only one I can think of at the moment is Nartuo for shippuden.

Anyways, if there is no plan to change his age a little while Jimmy is still in the body of a child, I'd take a few sites harboring fanfics on the idea.
Your thoughts on Conan's growth spurt.

It's an ageless series like the Simpsons where technology progresses but the characters remain the same age. I don't think the characters do age at one point in the series, since I've only seen 1996-early 2001 and the kid characters remain the same.

You are right, emasterslake.

When asked about it, Gosho Aoyama actually replied alomost same thing as you wrote.
The only difference is he used Japanese TV show "Sazae-san" as an example, instead of "Simpsons".

Funny things is, in the 400th TV episode (after 10 years of running),
it's explicitly stated it's been 6 months since Shin'ichi (Jimmy) has become Conan.
(According to Japanese wikipedia, this never happened in the original manga.)

I think this means viewers are "asked" to forget the timespan and enjoy each episode on its own (like James Bond movies).
After all, the show has little to do with realism.

I did try to not think too much about the time periods and just watch the show for entertainment.

I mean even in the Simpsons Bart was born in the 80s and we never see him age(with the exception of the alternate future episodes).
