Such a waste

If it would have had the right marketing and time slot, this could be a series still running today.

But it had major flaws. Like having every other episode not have Mattie or Mosby in it for some reason (salaries?) and continuity. Whatever happened to the wound that had Mattie on her deathbed in The Hideout? Then she wasn't in the next episode nothing was ever said about it and the quick feelingless courtships among the characters.

That being said, it was a beautifully shot series and had a lot of potential. Another Hannah-Call-Mosby triangle around Mattie with Amanda in the wings, it's a damn shame that it ended how and when it did.

Oh and Kelly Rowan = smokin. And I usually don't prefer blondes.

I really like this series. I agree with you about Kelly Rowan. She is a very talented and beautiful actress.

I agree nojoke79. This series had a lot going for it. Although the continuity lapses got annoying by the end. Was anyone ever going to ask how the Indian agent guy got Un-Bob's fancy leather coat? The one he tried to gift to Newt Call some episodes back?

I totally love the range of characters, especially the women. They got to do more than stand to the side holding a parasol.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

I really liked it for the gritty reality of the period and the depth of the characters. Like it has been mentioned, the female characters were well developed, no pun intended, and they could hold there own when the situation called for it.

I saw the parallel between Clay Mosby and J. R. Ewing that both were ruthless toward anyone who got in their way but their loyalty was beyond question when it came to living by their personal standards. Clay and Newt did not get along at all but Clay would not allow anyone to kill him.

One of the best episodes was where Clay was kidnapped and enslaved by a family of "odd characters" who were killing by passers for their property. He got to show that he had his limits to what he would tolerate and got to be the good guy. I don't remember too many details but I also think there was a show where Newt and Clay were in a situation where they had to temporarily call a truce and work together to survive. Wish it was still on.
