I recently re-discovered this movie on the (hopefully uncut) DVD (I lost the tapes I made from the original broadcast years ago)and as I'm watching it now, I notice something I never did before.
I think they dubbed Isabella Rosellini's voice over the girl playing Young Nimue's. Anybody know whether this is true?
I think they did too. It sounds just like her and I doubt they would make the girl who played her fake Rosellini's accent....Probably a last minute editing decision, and not necessarily a good one. However, maybe the girl's voice was so different that it would have been just another thing for us fans to nitpick about, lol.
yes, they dubbed it, because the young Nimue had a Scandanavian accent that Isabella didn't have. If you watch the commentary, the director appologizes for it
Isabella Rosselini does have a Scandinavian accent though for some reason...maybe her mother (Ingrid Bergman in case anyone can't tell) taught her English?
Yeah they dubbed her voice over the real actors voice, at least according to imdb's trivia page for this movie. I think it's silly, I believe that the actress playing young Nimue could have pulled that accent off. But I love this movie despite that.
Swedish accents are Scandinavian accents as they are spoken by speakers of the North Germanic/Scandinavian dialect continuum of mutual inteligable languages closer than many dialects of other languages (for instance Chinese dialects, or to use a closer example German ones). Isabella Rosellini sounds a lot like her mother Ingrid Bergman, more so than she sounds like an Italian or French woman (she grew up mostly in France) though maybe many aren't familiar with Ingrid Bergman now... she looks a lot like her daughter as well.
