I may be in the minority, but...

I really liked this year's special.

As an avid Royle Family fan, I absolutely despised last year's dismal effort (that wasn't how I'd imagined Dave's parents to be at all) but although far from perfect and still not a patch on the first 2 or 3 series I thought this Christmas' episode was back along the right track at least.

As I said, it was far from perfect. The "Thank you Mum. Thank you Dad. Thank you Dave etc" was annoying and completely unneccesary, whilst Joe, one of my favourite characters in The Royle Family, didn't really seem like the old Joe I came to be so fond of. (though his "Shall I come out now?" line made me laugh!)

But I loved the caravan seen, particulary the scene where Dave kept repeating "Theres been a murder" in a Scottish accent that resulted in Jim strangling him. In fact I actually pasued and re-wound back to that part on Christmas Day I found it that amusing.

I also thought Dave's apparent 'flirting' with the Sat Nav lady was funny, I'm definately looking forward to next Christmas' special this time around.

Well it's nice that someone can appreciate it. Personally I thought it was rubbish, and had maybe three genuine laughs in the whole thing.

That characters was so badly written, they were like caricatures of their former selves.

I thought both the last 2 specials were very poor. This years was better though. A shame, they are all talented, the actors and writer too. But maybe this cash cow has ran its course. For me, it could never be the same without Liz Smith; her relationship with Jim was great viewing.

Funny, I saw Caroline Aherne (Denise) the other day, petite thing, but she looked great.
