The Blu-ray image quality is terrible ... or?

The image quality of this film on blu-ray is the worst I ever seen. Could there be something wrong with my copy or have everyone who bought it on Blu-ray also crappy image quality?

BTW I love the movie!

Bad encoding job or Fox supplied Shout Factory with a poor HD master. Fox probably just upscaled a standard definition DVD because they didn't want to invest much money for a proper remastering.

The movie was shot to look like a mid-late 70's western, so the PQ isn't terrific.

It's far better than a DVD upscale (the DVD quality was shocking) but it's at the bottom end of blu transfers. Why studios mistreat their films like this is beyond me (other than that they want you to double-dip for the nice transfer down the line, though Ravenous will never see another blu release unless a European country decides to do a proper job).

On the contrary, I thought it vastly improved in the second half of the film. I agree when it first started out, the images seemed a bit soft and muddy. But the outdoor scenes looked amazing on my TV. Then once they started out for the cave, things seemed to improve drastically.
