intense...

I finally watched this the other day and man I had to go get some fresh air....this was intense..
(spoilers ahead..I guess...)

You could feel the anxiety between the husband and wife especially in the scene where Alexis is having breakfast and David comes downstairs, and they start to fight...He begins to nit-pick at everything she says, that line about washing a clean glass as though her hands are dirty THAT WAS BRILLANT...and then he pulls up the shades...He yells at her for always shutting him out, and slams the cupboards....This scene felt like I was watching in on my neighbours fighting or something, if it's goal was to make me feel uncomfortable, man it worked perfectly!

you could feel the animosity in that scene,
brillant acting, all three of em, especially Alan Rickman...

interesting film, quite different, I liked their interpretation of an unhappy couple on the verve of a massive breakdown....

Yes, you're right, this is one of the most intense movies I've seen in months... It's very discomforting. The whole film through I thought the boy would turn out to be some crazy killer who makes love to the wife and kills the husband. There was a huge sexual tension between the boy and the wife (maybe because of my expectations), I mean, damn, she was so sexy!

Between biting my fingernails off, I thought this was one of the most interesting and unconvenient thrillers I've seen a while. I liked how everything was dosed. One moment you think the man hates his wife, another moment you would think he loves her and previously they were just having a bit of a bad day or so. You also don't know if the boy wants to sleep with the woman, or if the woman wants the boy. Nothing is sure, and it bugged me, so I think it's great the film could bug me in such a way. I also liked that there are parts that remain unexplained, I have the feeling there's a lot of symbolism in the film I just didn't get.
