Rickmans accent!

Fantastic actor, shame he cant do accents. It took me half an hour to realise he was attempting to speak US style!

It was pretty bad. And he has such lovely purring voice when he's not straining to produce an accent. He should've just used his own. Polly Walker did, even when, in her case, it made no sense per the story.

Agreed, he should have used his regular accent. His voice is awesome as is. I laughed when I saw a "Dialect Coach" in the credits.

How does Hugh Laurie do such a convincing American accent and most others have such a tough time with it (Anthony Hopkins comes to mind)?

He's not. He does use a couple of American idioms, which confuses me, but if you think he can't do accents, just watch Die Hard.

Maybe he was supposed to sound like a Brit who's been living in the States so long he's picking up the local accent?
