Dave Chappelle out of place in this movie?

I don't know he really didn't seem to fit the role just right.

reply

I think it would have been better if he and Steve Zahn switched roles.

reply

Yeah, for sure.

reply

Disagree. I think Zahn's character was quirky .. it would be hard to see him and Fox as friends.

reply

I thought that it was believable that they were friends.

reply

Actually I loved him in this. I wish we had more things like YGM to watch him act in. I get that he's done cutting edge comedy and done it really well, but I thought he did a great job here and is underrated as an actor. People give him more credit as a comedy writer and stand up. The man can deliver a nice performance even in a relatively small part.

reply

A little bit he did a good job. I think the 17 year age gap was why he didn't seem as believeable as Hanks friend.

reply

He did a fine job in a very limited role, but he DID seem out of place (miscast). Not badly of course...

reply

I thought he was very funny, the few scenes that he had. And he represented the Felix Bressart character in The Shop Around the Corner as Joe's friend and confidante, just as Felix Bressart did to Jimmy Stewart in The Shop Around the Corner. The scene where Joe is supposed to meet his mystery friend and Chappelle is peering through the window of the Startbucks to try to spot her was lifted almost intact from "Shop", with Bressart playing the same role as Chappelle.
