Geez, Kathleen, you could downsize a little!

I know it was a family business, and her two younger co-workers had probably worked there forever, but in almost every scene in her store, all 3 employees were always there! She was in dire financial straits and didn't think of cutting back the staff's hours even a little?

I tease a bit, because I love this movie, but seriously!

I think she considered the long-term effect, so she got out while she could instead of slowly dying out by Fox Books.

But yeah; letting some of her staff go would have given her some more time. 

I've always boggled at how many staff that tiny bookshop had, even all there on the same day! I worked for years in small retail stores and I was usually the ONLY store clerk on duty, manning the shop myself while my boss would float in and out of the office quarters. No small shop like this has four staff including boss/owner there together working the same hours. Those three staff would work different days or shifts, some being the weekend person, for example.

And yet, almost up until the very end, whenever we see the store, it's usually very busy and all the employees are needed to help the customers. The only times we see the store empty of customers is before/after hours.

probably her drug habit caused her to think like that. 
