Shot in Chico CA

I was totally pleased to see the opening scene and several others that were shot in my college town of Chico CA.

Was nice to see some old landmarks (senator theater in opening sequence and the town park downtown) that have been either shut down or destroyed.

I live in Chico, and the Senator hasn't really been shut down. There are still concerts there. Most of the stuff in the park is still there, and the Dairy Queen (Dairy Freeze) is still there and I go there every month or so.

Unfortunately, the downtown plaza cattycorner from the Senator has been razed, due to fears of the towering shady elms dropping limbs and injuring people. The new "improved" plaza is mostly concrete, with a bathroom building, small raised grassy areas with new little trees rimmed with concrete for seating, concrete picnic tables, a stage with roofed area and a paved center with a fountain of recycled water that only operates occasionally. It is slightly smaller, as they have created parking areas on the sides. It will be a couple decades before the trees offer any usable shade, even if they have planted varieties that will get tall enough to do much, which I doubt. Since we have 7 months of hot and really hot weather, go figure. They still have lots of events there, but you have to love heat. We call it "the Mausoleum."

were there any other parts that were filmed in chico?

I wonder why they chose to film some parts in chico...

reply

I'm pretty sure the whole thing was filmed in Chico. The movie also features the high school and the downtown area quite a bit.

reply

Yeah, there was several shots at Chico High School and in the town down residential area.

reply

Hell yeah. I used to live in Chico when they made that movie.

Ya I'm actually in the movie as an extra but still in it. I was like 5 when it was filmed still remember it to this day. I got to meet Harold and his Chihuahua. There were a lot of Chico people in the movie. Our car at the time is also in the movie.

reply

I was an extra in the movie with a few friends. The dance was filmed in the CARD center across from the Post Office.

reply

The museum was the old Veterans Hall.
