Unfortunately, the downtown plaza cattycorner from the Senator has been razed, due to fears of the towering shady elms dropping limbs and injuring people. The new "improved" plaza is mostly concrete, with a bathroom building, small raised grassy areas with new little trees rimmed with concrete for seating, concrete picnic tables, a stage with roofed area and a paved center with a fountain of recycled water that only operates occasionally. It is slightly smaller, as they have created parking areas on the sides. It will be a couple decades before the trees offer any usable shade, even if they have planted varieties that will get tall enough to do much, which I doubt. Since we have 7 months of hot and really hot weather, go figure. They still have lots of events there, but you have to love heat. We call it "the Mausoleum."
