Such a good movie!
I find this movie to be extremely enjoyable!
shareYea one of Matt’s best and the famer of poker.
shareIt's an excellent film. It's the kind of movie that you watch and then you immediately want to go get involved in the thing that the film is about: in this case poker.
There are only so many films out there that I can, and have, watched over and over throughout the years, but Rounders is one of those films. The story is great and feels original and like it's something different from what most Hollywood movies give us. And the performances across the board are also excellent. It's also just fun to see these guys move within the poker underground and do their thing.
Since I'm thinking about it, I'll mention that another highly rewatchable film from this era that features young actors from the same generation is Boiler Room. That's also a fucking great movie.
Interesting that you say that PM, because this is pretty much the reason why i got involved in poker.
shareI'm sure you're not the only one. If I had been a little older when Rounders came out, I'd probably have the same story. There's no doubt that the film just made being a poker player look so fucking cool.
shareYes indeed. Alot of things that happen in the movie get criticized by the poker community but basically it is still the greatest poker movie of all time. There´s been a sequel supposedly in the works for quite some time but just never seems to happen.
shareI think him and Ed are too old for it. Imagine John lol.
What gets criticise?
They would obviously have to play middle aged versions of themselves. I would definitely watch it. The poker strategy gets criticized but its pretty much bound to happen for a movie that´s 20 years old. For instance, Mike plays Teddy heads up, and open raises to 20 times the big blind with KK. Teddy then reraises this absurdly large open to 100x the BB as a bluff. Mike goes all in and Teddy folds. If someone played HU like that today, people would be lining up to play either one of them.
The other scene that gets criticized is at the judge´s game when Mike knows everyone´s holdings despite being at the table for only one round of betting. That is completely unrealistic, the best stud players in the world today, wouldn´t be able to do that.
Me too but its not as exciting as the movie, obviously.
shareThis era had so many good films. For some reason it makes me think of swingers. I think a thing that made rounders so great was that everyone in it was giving in all-star performances to the point that it made it too easy for Damon to fit in like he couldnt do no wrong. This and Will are at top of Damon’s career and rewatchables but my top and for me his best ever is Ripley.
The only thing I dont like about Rounders is that he chooses Poker over the babe and a great career when though a novelty idea really stupid because gambling isnt a good life and he was putting down a worthy life for sittting on a table roonding cards and in real life Matt got his ass handed to him despite being portrayed as a big hot shot Johnny Chan wouldve stomped him.
His babe was annoying as hell though. She was so whiny. I don´t blame Mike for choosing that life, because that´s what he wanted. I think the ultimate message of the movie is that, you should do what you want to do, not what someone else wants you to do, otherwise you will be unhappy.
shareThis era had so many good films.
MY FAVORITE TWO MATT DAMON MOVIES...….ROUNDERS & THE RAINMAKER....LOVE 90S DAMON.
