The kid is picked beforehand, so they know who it is. Also so they can tell the kid to cheer for themself when the camera is in their direction.

Also, no one mentioned this, but during the "Wild Style" years, the clock in the first round disappeared from view and came back with much less time remaining. WTF?
Yeah, and didn't some of the kids win a Toys 'R Us gift certificate and then others would win a stupid sweatshirt or something? I would be really pissed off, lol
