Talents???

Am I the only one who feels like the so-called "talents" aren't really talents? The only talented contestant was the guy who could play bongos while on a pogo stick and the most impressive part was the flips and tricks he did.

However, the other contestants didn't really have talents. The one girl made her own syrup but realistically anyone could learn to do that. Then there was the girl who rolled around in a pool full of dirty water (or whatever the stuff was) Again, not really a talent. Then the guy who was really good at air hockey lol Anyone could be good at air hockey if they spent enough time playing.

I'm enjoying the show for the nostalgic factor but I hope the contestants and talents get a little more interesting. If future contestants only show up with mediocre talents than I can't see myself continuing to watch the show.

The original show had some pretty lame talents as well. Few things though.

First off, I totally agree on the syrup girl. When that came up I was thinking "Doesn't everyone who makes syrup, do it that way." From what we saw though, it is all organic and I'm guessing she sells it, so it's not just some kid that makes syrup.

The air hockey kid was the International Junior Champion. That's a pretty big deal. They didn't have much of a chance on that one though because the wording for the phrase was weird. It was something like "Scores most goals with floating puck". I would have never gotten that even if I saw what his talent was before he was on the show.

The other one you mentioned was rolling around in grits and she is apparently the record holder. Granted, it's pretty silly though. I did laugh when the "grits" clue came up. As soon as it happened I had a feeling none of them were going to get it. I don't know where the panelists were from but grits are eaten mostly in the South and there are many people from the South that don't eat them, so them thinking it was something else wasn't surprising.

I was thinking the same thing, and when I saw the real answer (I was playing along) I was blown away by Ciara's guess. I thought she filled the blank in with a "stupid" word on purpose... but "many" is pretty damn close to "most"

I think when they say talents, they mean to mix it up with actual talents/skills, accomplishments, and cool things kids do that aren't ordinary. At least, it seems that way.

Do you watch it for the celebrity panelists at all? I know I watch it especially for the Big Time Rush boys.

reply

I watch it mostly for the panelists, I don't care much for the talents.

reply

I don't really watch it for the panelists. I mostly watch it because I loved it back in the 90's so I thought I'd give it a chance. The first episode was pretty good because of the guy that could do the tricks on the pogo stick so I kinda thought they would have more contestants that would be able to do cool stuff like that, but I guess I was wrong.

The panelists don't really impress me. The only panelist I enjoyed seeing was Drake Bell. The rest of the panelists I either:

A.) Don't know who they are or what show they are from or
B.) Don't care about (The guys from Big Time Rush x.x)

It would be pretty cool if they could get some old school Nickelodeon panelists back. They could try getting Amanda Bynes or Lori Beth or Josh Server or Kenan Thompson or....anybody from some of the old 90's Nickelodeon shows. They could make it like a special episode dedicated to the 90's Figure It Out. Maybe even bring back Billy The Answer Head and get Summer Sanders back for the episode.

Gotcha. If you don't know the current stars, I wouldn't expect you to particularly care haha.

To be fair though, we were a lot less critical when watching Figure it Out as kids. Nostalgia can be blinding, I know. 90s shows were fantastic, but just focusing on Figure it Out, honestly, I don't think the old series was particularly better. They're pretty much even. Nick actually managed to stay quite true to the original Figure it Out. Pretty cool.

Kenan is a real possibility, esp considering Nick had him back for an episode of iCarly/Victorious. Besides Amanda Bynes, idk what the heck any of the other big 90s stars are up to. Do you know? It'd be nice to see them back.

reply

I think they could definitely get Kenan to do an episode and I think Josh Server would do it since he has done appearances on other Nickelodeon shows in the past like Drake and Josh and Ned's Declassified. Amanda Bynes may be a little harder to get. The last movie she was involved in was Easy A and that was back in 2010. I don't think she's currently doing any movies or television shows. I don't think Lori Beth is involved in any major movie projects or television shows so they might be able to get her on for an episode.

I think if they tried hard enough they could get a lot of the old Nickelodeon stars back for an episode. There are only like a handful of 90's Nickelodeon actors and actresses who actually went on and became real celebrities. Most of them haven't really done much.

Nick seemed to listen to a lot of the pleas to give the old shows some airtime, so maybe they might just do this too. I wouldn't expect it anytime soon, though. Nick's first priority is leaving an impression on the current kids and promoting their current stars.

Besides Amanda/Danny/Lori Beth, who else had a lasting impression on Figure it Out? I remember Phil Moore was pretty amusing.

reply

Danny Tamberelli, Michael C. Maronna, Katrina Johnson, Kyle Sullivan, Leon Frierson, Christy Knowings, Angelique Bates, Jenna Morrison, David Lascher, Jonathan Galkin, Josh Tygiel, Melissa Joan Hart (although she does have her show on ABC Family but I'd like to think she would be nice enough to make an appearance)

I think my dream panelists would be:

Amanda Bynes
Lori Beth Denberg
Kenan Thompson
Kel Mitchell

I would also love to see Melissa Joan Hart so in my fantasy there would be five panelists lol

and Summer Sanders hosting. =)

I just watched the episode with the pogo stick kid and the syrup girl. I wasn't that impressed with the bongo playing but the flips and tricks that he did after he put down the bongos were really impressive. The syrup one was really dumb to me though. Maybe to someone who lives someplace where maple trees are not common it would seem impressive but I live someplace where maple trees are common and many lots of people (including my family) make their own maple syrup. Seemed that maybe it was her families business. We don't sell our syrup but I have known how to make it since I was probably 8. Also usually maple syrup made in the way that she was making it (same way we make it) is organic.

reply

And if you watched closely, the girl with the syrup didn't even *really* make the syrup. She just kinda narrated the process while others did the work!

reply

she probably did it beforehand, so i'll dispute you on that.
