On the DVD featurette it says that originally someone else was hired to play the character of William. This actor even shot a few scenes but it didn't work out so they hired Charlie Korsmo instead. Does anyone know what actor originally played Will?
They were very careful not to say his name, not sure what legal problems are behind that...
BUT, on the commentary, someone points out the one shot in the movie where it is ADAM HANN-BYRD (best known from "Little Man Tate") instead of Charlie Korsmo. (the directors even say "I dont think we're supposed to say that", but surprisingly it was not bleeped out of the commentary.)
it was a far away shot of him and the two other "nerds" running across the yard or something. There's no way you could tell it wasn't him if they hadn't mentioned it. They were too far away.
Oh right, now I know what you're talking about. I just watched the movie today and it was the scene where William and his friends first show up at the party and are running across the backyard with a ladder.
In the commentary they mention that it isn't Charlie Korsmo, but they never give the name of who the guy actually was.
Either way, I think Charlie fit the role perfectly as William, and I can't imagine anybody else doing as good a job as he did.
If they did, it definitely wasn't in the commentary - Seth Green was the only actor doing the commentary. I watched it again today specifically to hear them say the name, and none of them did. Deb Kaplan said very quickly, "That's not Charlie Korsmo" and they didn't mention another name.
It was definitely Adam Hann-Byrd. I used to get Hollywood Reporter and I remember the original cast list mentioned, and then was shocked when I saw the film and it was Charlie Korsmo instead. He ended up being great in 'The Ice Storm' though, and then went on to to Halloween H2O.
