Why Didn't This do Better When Initial Released?


It grossed $25,605,015 million back in 1998 and it came out during the initial teen movie boom and other teen films after out performed it (Varsity Blues, She's All That to name a few) and I know that it did build a big following on DVD but I always wondered why it wasn't a bigger hit because everyone seems to love the film so much. any thoughts?

Maybe they didn't push it enough with advertising? I'm in the UK and was about 14 when this came out, and I just randomly came across it in Blockbuster one day. I'd never heard of it before.

Maybe they had more advertising in the states though?

I've heard the argument that since it was released a year prior to American Pie, Can't Hardly Wait would've performed better had it been ironically enough, R-rated:
