at the end when steven asks paula if she still has her squirt gun and then he says "keep it. this rain wont last forever" then the camera crusies into the sky from the maniacs.

agreed, can't be re-enacted in the same style. it's just too late. the equipment used to make this movie is long-gone with the eighties and unavailable. modern techniques just couldn't bring what the few original Neon fans would be looking for. the concept of Neon Maniacs could be made popular if improvised correctly, but i don't care about that.

your idea of a remake reminded me of Stepehen Kings ''IT'' where all the characters return to take out the clown. just as they go down into the sewer to find pennywise, you'd see an aged stephen, natalie, and Paula digging down in the golden gate bridge after years and years of psychological suffering, using water to finish off the Maniacs! go Paula!

"it'd be cool to see Paula grown up and battling them off with some new characters,or all three returning...it likely wouldn't be the same now, this was pure 80s and can't be recreated in modern times to be honest in my views... "

Couldn't agree more. Some films only work because of the era they are from.

I feel more like I do now than I did when I got here.

i reckon the end of 'manaiacs was one of the best endings ending of a cheesy 80's horror film, so how would you like to see a sequelo start?

If they could get the three leads back to play their parts. Maybe Steven and Natalie are now married with kids, and Paula is making horror films as a career. Through backstory we could learn what happened to them after the first film ended. Would we want new maniacs? Or the same characters? Or maybe have some of the original mixed in with the new.
I think it could be interesting if Paula over the years was trying to discover the origin of the maniacs and as a result accidentally causes the maniacs to start again. Have her show up at the doorstep of Steven and Natalie the same way she does in the original. Steven and Natalie have moved to Seattle(or somewhere in the NW)because of how often it rains(At least it seems like it rains a lot here, I live in Oregon and it's supposed to rain for the next 10 days)
Thinking they can just kill the maniacs again with water, they learn the hard way the maniacs have adapted(or been changed?)so now water never harms them.

No pulse, no heartbeat. If condition does not change, this man is dead.

The problem with remakes is that they can never capture what was done originally and you still see Hollywood doing that! That is what really burns me up! How come people will not learn not to do a remake?

They always think I can make it better by adding or subtracting this from the original movie and it just does not work you know.

No doubt it was left open in case the cash ever came in. It's really odd that this didn't have gazillion bad sequels. It was very common in those days by smaller companies to buy a movie and use the brand" to sell your movies as lazy sequels. Just look at the Puppetmaster series. Or even Subspecies.
Guess that rain did last forever after all...
