most disturbing scene ever

It may not be fair for me to comment because I haven't really watched this movie, but the TV was on and the sound was turned down when I noticed an Allman Brothers album being burned.

So I turned up the sound and they're playing Lynyrd Skynyrd - while burning an ABB album? WTF? That's practically sacrilege to me. I love the Allmans - Lynyrd Skynyrd is pop trash IMO. And then they throw a Hunter S. Thompson novel on top of that?

I'm not going to judge this whole movie on that one scene - it might actually be very interesting - I'll reserve judgement until I actually watch it from the beginning, but for shock value this scene really got me.

In fact, this scene makes me want to see it from the start so I can understand the context, but burning an ABB album - that's just wrong - especially while playing Free Bird...Maybe it's supposed to be ironic, I won't know until I see the parts leading up to that.

LOL. I read this thread because I couldn't remember a really disturbing scene in this movie. . . I hope you don't have nightmares after watching them burn "Eat A Peach"! Watch some VH1 Classic and you'll feel better, man. Better yet, watch some live UFO on Youtube, OK? I feel your pain.

They're lucky that they didn't try to burn a Zeppelin or Uriah Heap album. Lightning bolts would have shot from the fire. LOL!

Uriah Heap

Thanks, they need more exposure, what a great rack of albums and songs they had. Caused many a kid to invest in a more powerful stereo!

My girlfriend's dad rescued a tattered copy of their vinyl live album, from a flea market bargain bin, several years ago. Once I snuck a sample of it, my mission was to acquire everything by Heap. I always joke that they are a poor man's Zeppelin, in the same sense that Alan Parson is a poor man's Floyd. But, Uriah Heap is a completely unique entity, that will blow the covers off of any speaker set. In comparison to modern bands, they kind of remind me of Wolfmother. I also find they a lot of Rush fans are drawn to them. ROCK ON!

haha I always say that Alan Parsons is the poor man's floyd too. He did produce their albums for many years so he's allowed to be heavily influenced by them.

Hell, I can get you a toe by 3 o'clock this afternoon...

Maybe this had something to do with Lynyrd's "burning" accident?

reply

Skynyrd is not pop trash period. They are/were as American as Apple Pie. The originals were even killed doing what they loved to do, sing. So show some respect and I seriously doubt that the AB cover was authentic. Remember the Ferrari in Ferris Bueller that crashed through the back glass garage? It was a fake/kit.

reply

actually, they were killed trying to do what i love to do...land safely.

Burning something in tribute is not an effigy. An effigy is a dummy made up to look like a particular person, usually a political figure, and they are usually hung and/or burned. Burning a book or record in tribute to a fallen friend is a eulogy. You could look it up.

What kind of idiot posts comments to a message board about a movie he hasn't seen? Oh - did I already answer that?

The scene you describe makes perfect sense in the context of the movie. Why don't you watch the movie and then post?

And when you do, please apologize for your stupidity and for the few minutes I wasted reading your post and the replies of well-meaning people and then writing my own reply.

What a waste!

If they burned "Sports" by Huey Lewis... I'd REALLY get angry. LOL!
