What are the implications of not knowing Kaufman when watching this movie? Is it still worth watching? Would it be much worse (provided you liked it in the first place)?
Think of Saturday Night Life for example. It's only good watching if you know what real people are referred to.
I just watched this movie for the very first time from the AMC channel on TV ( and I remember commercials for it years ago ) . Though I think I should rent it one of these days to see it in full without commercials ( and probably edited on TV too ? ) . I do remember watching actor Andy Kaufman from the TV Show TAXI when I was a child . Yet I really didn't know what his personal life was like until I started watching this film and looking up his profiles on both IMDB and Wikipedia . This movie from what I have seen is good but I still have mixed feelings as to what was facts and what wasn't . Perhaps I may need to see this movie more than just once . It all seemed very overwhelming at first glance but I would like to give it another chance . Thanks Mandy_Whitsands for your subject post .
Thank you ms-zanadu for sharing your thoughts and impressions. What three adjectives would be most fitting for the film according to you? And would "funny" be one of them?
Well from what I had mentioned before Mandy_Whitsands it being the very first time for me viewing this movie ever and from what I saw of it on AMC it was very good . Certain scenes of the movie like the stage scenes with the Andy Kaufman character were very funny ( and actor Jim Carrey was a very good match-up for AK too by the way ) . Though alot of the film had a very serious tone to it as well and had alot of various side stories going on with it too but it still held your attention to it overall . I guess my three most fitting adjectives ( because it seemed to have a bit of everything to it ) would be - characteristic , sentimental , and unique . Of course this is all just my personal opinion .
